Anonymous said: Your comic is rather similar in concept to Battle Pug. Is that where you drew you inspiration?

This has come up before and I’ve written about it before here on Tumblr. Here is my original post: http://r-dart.tumblr.com/post/39908056162/the-very-first-battle-kitten-drawing-i-knew

Lots of new friends on here! Great to see. Seems like a good time to let you new folks know that I have a 56 page collection of sketchbook pages and comics that I had professionally printed up a couple years ago, and still have some copies available. Above is a black and white version of the cover before I colored it. It’s available exclusively from the zine webstore my husband has:

PROCESS COLOUR: A gallery exhibition about how comics are made.

—-

Vancouver folk! Tomorrow night (Friday August 16th) is the opening for our PROCESS COLOUR show: it basically documents the comic-making process from initial idea to completed page. Come see amazing work by Rebecca Dart, Simon Roy, and Brandon Graham, as well as myself! If you’d like to see all sorts of early sketches, story ideas, and plans for THE SEEDS OF GOOD FORTUNE, they’re all over the walls. SO MANY SECRETS ARE REVEALED! Find out how the SAUSAGE is made! Discover the DISGUSTING TRUTH about the comics you love!

The photos above were taken while we were hanging up the work. Come see it in person tomorrow night, Friday August 16th! 7pm at the Hot Art Wet City gallery, Main st & East 6th!

Hot Art Wet City gallery info page.

Facebook event page.

Hey Vancouverites! If you like art and the artistic process come and see four artist’s thumbnails, concept art and doodles as well as the finished work at this gallery show… not to mention a sneak peek at the Battle Kittens graphic novel. Hope to see you there!

DELILAH DIRK AND THE EASY MARK
Hide your treasure - that “Delilah Dirk-as-cat” comic that I’ve been hinting at for the past few weeks? It’s up right now on Tor.com! Click through and read the whole thing!
Confused about how this comic about a cat relates to Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant - a book with relatively few cats (available August 27th)? Long story short, it’s an in-joke. Long story long:
If you’re familiar with The Turkish Lieutenant, you’ll notice I made the foolish mistake of featuring a human woman in the starring role. This error was brought to my attention during an episode of Jerzy Drozd’s Comics Are Great podcast. He was interviewing Calista Brill, the sensible and insightful editor at First Second with whom I worked on Delilah Dirk. She was explaining the type of give-and-take an editor may have with an author, and said, “for example, I would not ask Tony Cliff to replace the character of Delilah Dirk with a cat.” Hearing this and knowing it could only possibly be a passive-aggressive airing of grievances, I have tried to correct the error with this short comic, Delilah Dirk and the Easy Mark.
Enjoy!

Seriously Tony Cliff, you’re one cool dude.
